More than 1600 diagrams , 175 tunings !

(Pinned post ) IMPORTANT :

For those of you who are familiar with cent values in several temperaments, please use the diagram called «Minor cent» in the beginning.

Here you will find cent values for fifths, major thirds and minor thirds within the same graph.

The red vectors is deviation from pure major third and blue vectors for minor third.

In the other diagrams I am using TU, but simply divide values by 30 to get a precise enough cent value.

Pythagorean comma = 23.46 cents = 720 TU

Syntonic comma = 21.51 cents = 660 TU.

(These numbers are easy to divide in 2,3,4,5,6...)

.................
The easiest way to get an overview of historical and newer tunings ! Read the Introduction (1) carefully and the diagrams will tell you much more than all the cent tables on the web.
Many of those who have found the key to the diagrams use this webside a lot.

Utopa Baroque organ, Amsterdam, Tuning Instruction by Ibo Ortgies

It is pretty easy to tune, much more so than many other circular temperaments.
I have two "recipes" published in my above mentioned article, both from a and from c.
The series of four fifths, C-G-D-A-E, is in practice the same as Kellner – mathematica
lly Kellner is so close an approximation of a 1/5 pyth. comma temperament, that C-G-D-A-E it is indiscernible here.

From c'
**

Both c'-g' and c'-e' beat with the same speed (2 beats/second).
Tune the fifth d'' or the fourth d' to g' so that the fifth beats 3 times/second.
Tune a' so that the resulting fifth d'-a' beats only slightly faster than c'-g'.
TEST: The resulting fifth a'-e'' or fourth e'-a' beats only slightly faster than g'-d''.

Tune pure: f to c, b to e.
Tune f#' to b° The beat rate is 1/second (tendency: slightly slower).
Pure: f#-c#, c#-g#, g#-d#, e-flat-b-flat
TEST: The resulting fifth b-flat°-f' is smaller than pure and should beat slightly, nearly unnoticeably slower than b°-f#'.

** Tip:
It may help to tune the octaves of all tuned notes between c° and c'' always right after the next note in the series is set, and continue to do so until the whole temperament is set.
With all notes in these two octaves already tuned, one can immediately test the temperament with triads in all keys in root position or as sixth chords.
